LEGAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The Department is structured into two [2] Divisions:

  1. Litigation; and,
  2. Petition and Appeal

FUNCTIONS:

  • Providing legal advice, opinions and interpretations of legal documents and statutory enactments to the Commission;
  • Drafting of legal notes, regulations, guidelines and other statutory instruments of the Commission;
  • Vetting of documents;
  • Drafting of contracts agreements and other legal documents between the Commission and third parties;
  • Researching into legal matters over which the Commission has jurisdiction;
  • Maintain a law library for the Commission;
  • Defending actions instituted against the Commission in the Courts and prosecution of cases instituted by the Commission;
  • Conducting legal searches;
  • Obtaining certified true copies of judgements/orders and other documents; and
  • Dealing with other matters as may be assigned to the Department from time to time.
