The Police Service Commission wishes to emphasise the need for massive employment into the Nigeria Police to address the manifest inadequate manpower noticed throughout the country during the February 23rd Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The Commission in its Interim Monitoring Report said it intends to continuously highlight the urgent need to regularly beef up the strength of the police force in particular and the other Para-military agencies in general.
It noted that provision of adequate security by the agencies is possible with improved strength backed by logistics which will no doubt ensure that peaceful environment is created for unhindered citizen participation in subsequent elections to discourage miscreants from disrupting election process.
The Commission deployed personnel throughout the country to ensure that Police men conduct themselves in accordance with the law and the rules of engagement already well known to them.
The Monitoring Team of the Commission however observed that most of the police officers arrived early at the voting centres and were professional, approachable with their requisite accreditation tags for easy identification as attested to by voters and some other stakeholders.
